Lately nostalgia has been knocking on my door, reminding me of one of my favorite artistic toys: textured plastic plates. They came in a variety of textures. I fondly remember the roofing, brick and stone textures. (Surprise, surprise that architecture was my first career path). At nostalgia's insistent prompting, I have been on a hunt for these plates for several months. At first the hunt was very casual, more like perusing. When general in-store perusing left me empty-handed, I finally went a on full-fledged internet scour.
Viola! I found them in two minutes flat. Can I still use the word scour if the process only lasted 120 seconds? Don't answer. Let's just say yes. Gotta love the internet.

I can't wait for my five-year-old artist (and perhaps some of my nieces and nephews) to get his hands on these Christmas morning! When nostalgia comes calling, answer the door - it's bound to be fun!
What are your favorite childhood toys, books and art supplies? Did the child in your life appreciate them like you did?
These are a great tool for kids, Shelley. I LOVE templates and use them all the time with my 3-year-olds at church ... Tupperware used to make some really nice ones and our church resource room has them, so I use them a lot. Melissa & Doug now have some templates (I purchased all four sets at $9.99 each) that are not only templates, but also have texture with them. They are a little difficult for 3's, but 5's do great with them. They have a wonderful dinosaur set that Matthew would probably love. :)
ReplyDeleteOoh, thanks for passing on the info! I'll check out the Melissa & Doug ones too then. Especially the dinosaur set. He really wants some scaly texture for his dinosaur drawings.
